Understanding Chronic Pain: How JANMI Soft Tissue Therapy Helps You Reset

Certificate in Chronic Pain Management

Let me speak plainly, from the hands and heart of someone who works with pain every single day.

Chronic pain isn’t just a tight muscle. It’s not always “bad posture” or “overtraining.” Often, it’s much deeper—a communication breakdown between body, brain, memory, and movement.

Since completing new CPD training on chronic pain management and tender point release, I’ve been reflecting on how much we’ve misunderstood this condition—not only as therapists but as people in pain. So many of you walk through my door not only hurting but confused. Tired. Dismissed. Told that pain is something you just “have to live with.”

At JANMI, we refuse to accept that. Chronic pain is real. But so is relief. And we’ve built this entire practice around helping people find it. Let us show you how.

CHAPTER 1: WHAT IS CHRONIC PAIN, REALLY?

The medical definition of chronic pain is pain that lasts longer than 12 weeks. But ask anyone who lives with it, and they’ll tell you—it’s not just duration. It’s identity.

Chronic pain creeps into how you move, how you sleep, how you breathe. It influences your posture, mood, even the way you stand when you wait for the kettle to boil. And what makes it so complex is that it’s not always linked to visible damage.

This was one of the key insights from my recent CPD course: pain doesn’t always equal injury. In fact, by the time pain becomes chronic, it’s often maintained by patterns—of movement, of tension, of nervous system sensitivity.

That’s where JANMI therapy comes in.

CHAPTER 2: THE BODY REMEMBERS

One of the most beautiful, tragic things I’ve learned in this work is how the body remembers. Every strain, every skipped recovery, every desk-bound year—it stays with us.

The fascia (the connective tissue that wraps around every muscle and organ) doesn’t forget. It thickens, hardens, tightens. It restricts glide, pulls joints out of line, traps nerves and vessels. Over time, this restriction becomes your “new normal.”

But your body doesn’t want to stay there. It’s constantly trying to reset. It just needs help.

That’s why I combine:

  • Sports Massage to flush, warm, and stimulate

  • Trigger Point Therapy to deactivate the knots that refer to pain

  • Myofascial Release to unstick the glued-down tissue and restore natural movement

And I do it not with force, but with focused, respectful touch.

CHAPTER 3: CHRONIC PAIN I SEE EVERY WEEK AT JANMI

Let’s bring it to life. Here are the kinds of chronic pain I help people with every week:

🌀 Tech-Neck

You’ve spent years leaning into screens. Your neck muscles are short, your traps tense, and your suboccipitals are holding your head up like scaffolding. You get tension headaches, sore upper back, numb arms.

🌀 Lower Back Pain

You’ve been sitting too long. Your lumbar spine is overloaded, your glutes are off, your QL is doing too much. You feel stiff in the morning and fragile in the evening.

🌀 Hip Tightness

You can’t lunge, squat, or sit cross-legged. Your hip flexors are short and tight, your glutes are weak, and you’ve lost rotation. Pain radiates to your lower back or groin.

🌀 Runner’s Knee

Pain around the kneecap, especially going downhill or after long runs. The quad/hamstring/hip stabiliser triangle is off. You’re strong—but out of sync.

🌀 Plantar Fasciitis

You dread your first step in the morning. The underside of your foot is burning, pulling. But the root often lies in your calves, hamstrings, and glutes—not just the fascia of your foot.

🌀 Scapular Pain

Your shoulder blades float awkwardly. One sticks out. You feel pinching with overhead movement. The rhomboid is tight, the serratus is weak, and the shoulder joint feels unstable.

🌀 Frozen Shoulder

You’ve lost range of motion. You can’t put on a jacket without pain. Everything is locked—physically and emotionally. This condition is misunderstood, and too often mistreated.

🌀 Tension Headaches

Your temples throb, your neck is tight, and stress makes it worse. Often rooted in suboccipital trigger points, jaw tension, and chronic poor posture.

These aren’t isolated problems. They’re patterns. Chronic, layered, and deeply human.

CHAPTER 4: HOW THE NEW CPD COURSES ENHANCE MY WORK

After completing my course on Chronic Pain and Symptom Management, I was reminded how much pain is influenced by the nervous system—not just tissue strain.

I now integrate more breathwork, vagus nerve stimulation, and nervous system-calming techniques into every session.

The Tender Points (Counterstrain Technique) course taught me how to address deeply tender areas that don’t respond to pressure. These are points that don’t want to be pushed—they want to be listened to. And through gentle positioning and release, they let go.

These tools have made my work deeper, more intuitive, and more precise.

CHAPTER 5: BESPOKE JANMI PACKAGES FOR CHRONIC PAIN

Every person’s chronic pain is unique. That’s why JANMI offers:

  • Tailored treatment packages (6 or 12 sessions)

  • Manual therapy combining deep tissue, myofascial, and trigger point work

  • Postural and movement assessments

  • Personalised strength and stretch programs

  • Digital support: video exercises, anatomical illustrations, posture guides

  • Ongoing review and progress mapping

You don’t just get hands-on therapy. You get a partner in healing.

CHAPTER 6: A CLIENT STORY

Let me tell you about one of my clients—we’ll call her L.

She came in with chronic hip and lower back pain. She’d been to chiropractors, physios, and even had imaging done. Nothing showed up.

What we found was tightness in her psoas, QL, and glute med, with fascial restriction in the thoracolumbar junction. But more than that, she was holding emotional stress in her breath and posture.

Over six sessions, we released tissue, activated her glutes, taught her to breathe into her belly again, and gave her a daily 10-minute mobility routine.

Her pain didn’t vanish overnight. But she no longer feared movement. That’s the real win.

FINAL WORD: CHRONIC PAIN IS REAL—AND SO IS RELIEF

If you’ve been carrying chronic pain, let me say this clearly:

You are not weak. You are not broken. You are not making it up.

Pain is complex. But healing doesn’t have to be. With the right tools, the right touch, and the right support—you can reconnect with your body.

JANMI isn’t just a therapy. It’s a philosophy. One that listens, respects, and resets.

And I’d be honoured to walk that path with you.
